Some of the Sport Development Team

The key area for Rugby development is to co-ordinate and implement a development plan that will increase participation and improve standards. The partnership aims to raise the standard of school rugby via community club links. Furthermore a Club Development Plan has been developed to provide quality coaching sessions, a coach mentoring programme and player development programme.

Secondary Schools

Year 9 pupils from Ysgol Brynhyfryd have been organising and running festivals for Primary schools across Denbighshire.  The Corwen festival included 40 children from the local primary schools who were given a coaching session and then mixed up to play games run and organised by the Brynhyfryd students. Brynhyfryd will be the venue for 100 children to attend the Ruthin area festival on Wed 23rd May.

The final of the Welsh Women’s Rugby Union / Dragons Trust Tag Rugby Tournament took place on Tuesday 8th May and saw 440 girls descend on the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff for an action packed day of rugby.   Well done to Ysgol Dinas Bran Girls teams who represented the county in the national tag festival and the North Wales RAF festival in Bangor on Sunday the 20th May.  You can view more information on this by following the WRU womens link.

Primary Schools

Penbarras were the Urdd winners for 2007 playing some Champaign rugby in Denbigh RFC, unfortunately they were unable to attend the regional finals in Llanelli.  The two teams making the journey to the scarlets were Borthyn and Twm O’Nant who had a fantastic day playing some good rugby and representing Denbighshire with pride, well done to all of you.

After three years in the finals and a couple of runner up slots to their record Ysgol Bryn Hedydd were the eventual winners of the county tag tournament.  They pipped Ysgol Llanfair in a thrilling final that went into extra time and a golden try.  Both teams were outstanding on the day. Well done.
